Let me share a little story from my college days. It was my third year studying computer engineering, and I encountered a situation that would change my perspective significantly. A girl approached me and started speaking in English. Coming from a small town, I wasn’t very familiar with speaking English daily. I found myself translating her words into my native language and then back into English to understand and respond appropriately. It wasn’t until after she left that I realized the importance of mastering English, especially if I wanted to succeed beyond academic achievements.

This anecdote is relevant because, in my professional life, I often see individuals underestimate their abilities through their speech during customer interactions. Poor diction and articulation can undermine the perceived capabilities of an individual and their organization.

To improve my own language skills, I turned to just two resources at that time: “Word Power Made Easy” by Norman Lewis and “The Adult Approach to Vocabulary Building.” These books significantly enhanced my vocabulary, which in turn enriched my thinking and articulation.

Effective communication hinges on simplicity, brevity, and clarity. Simplicity involves using straightforward words that everyone can understand, brevity means conveying more with fewer words, and clarity is about ensuring the listener understands your message as intended.

To achieve this, it’s vital to consciously and deliberately improve your vocabulary, which allows for more effective communication in less time, using well-chosen words that leave a strong impression on your clients. This approach not only improves how you engage with clients but also serves as an amplifier for the capabilities of your organization.

So, as you move forward, focus on enhancing your communication skills through better vocabulary, diction, and articulation. Never let the quality of your communication diminish the capabilities of your organization.
