Great leaders master two views: the mirror of self-awareness and the window to their ecosystem.
While so many others fixate or stay stuck in the same loop because of traditional leadership models, this framework uncovers how top performers can drive change in themselves and other stakeholders they serve.
Let’s explore it together.
#1. Through the Mirror
As Mahatma Gandhi said – change starts from within – leaders must first look into their mirror to become self-aware of their own lenses, behaviors and perceptions around them.
But how?
Seek feedback. Feedback is often called the breakfast of champions.
Remember, everybody else’s perception is your reality.
By seeking feedback, you showcase yourself as being humble, it helps you identify your blindspots, it also wipes the proverbial stains from your mirror so you get a clearer look at yourself.
Feedback heightens your awareness. With greater awareness, you can exercise better choices. Your choices have the potential to create a greater possibility.
With increased awareness, you commit to the right actions, thereby unlocking a higher level of performance.
Start with yourself, and move the mirror to your team – then adopt a coaching mindset with your team to effect a multiplier impact.
#2 Through the Window
The second metaphor is the window, which represents a leader’s external view.
The first view through the window is your own team.
- Are you empowering your team to bring out the best in them?
- Are you able to observe, understand and improve team dynamics?
- Are you able to balance being visionary and inspirational?
The second view outside the window are your customers.
- How much do you understand about their world?
- How can they improve their value proposition and business results?
- What capabilities/partnerships can help them serve their customers and markets better?
When the mirror and window come together, it unlocks excellence. A potent combination of inward power and outward progress.
Through the metaphor of the mirror and window, leaders can now drive meaningful change within themselves and within their organizations.
How is your inner awareness driving external achievement?
