What separates a sales team hitting quota from one that’s redefining what’s possible in their market?
After working with dozens of Fortune 500 sales organizations this year, I can tell you it’s not about doing five things better.
It’s about doing three things completely differently. Let me share what’s actually driving the wins.
1. Stop Selling Solutions. Start Enabling Transformations.
Here’s what I see in almost every deal review:
The sales team has mapped their solution perfectly to functional requirements.
- Finance gets better reporting.
- Operations get faster processing.
- IT gets easier integration.
But it’s still limiting your deal size by 60-70%.
Because while you’re solving departmental problems, the real opportunity is enabling organizational transformation.
It happens when you understand the larger context. Think consciously about how your solution connects to organizational priorities and shows up in board-level initiatives.
The shift isn’t complicated, it’s about lifting your eyes from tactical requirements to strategic priorities.
- What’s on the CEO’s agenda?
- What are they promising the board?
- How does your solution show up in those commitments?
Your solution doesn’t change. Your conversation does and your deal size follows.
2. Make Your Value Impossible to Ignore
I’m still surprised by how many sales teams can’t answer this question:
“What exactly can your customer tell their board you delivered?”
Features don’t answer this. Benefits don’t either. Not even ROI calculations, if we’re honest.
What answers it is measurable, monetizable business value that your customer can claim credit for.
Think about what this actually looks like:
Your customer stands in front of their leadership team and says: “We reduced customer churn by 18%, saving $2.3M annually. Here’s the before-and-after data showing direct attribution.”
Not: “We implemented a new platform with great features.”
The difference determines whether you get renewed, expanded, or replaced.
The transformation happens when you move from celebrating “successful implementations” to documenting the very specific and quantifiable achievements.
Create value your customers can calculate, attribute, and present. Everything else is noise.
3. Sell the Way You Solve
There’s a moment in every customer meeting where they’re making a decision that has nothing to do with your solution.
They’re deciding: “Is working with this team going to elevate us?”
I call this the mirror test. Your sales process is a mirror that shows customers exactly what working with you will be like after the contract is signed.
- If your meetings are transactional, they expect transactional support.
- If your engagements are generic, they expect generic results.
- But if every interaction makes them sharper, more strategic, more prepared for their own internal conversations, they start inviting other executives to your meetings.
When discovery calls become valuable enough, customers naturally say: “Can we have our CFO join next time? She needs to hear this perspective.”
That’s not selling. That’s creating an experience competitors can’t replicate.
Your differentiation isn’t in your product roadmap. It’s how customers feel after spending an hour with you.
The Pattern That Matters
Sales teams that master even one of these areas typically see massive growth in deal size.
Teams that master two? They’re usually leading their divisions.
The rare teams that master all three? They’re rewriting what’s possible in their markets.
You don’t need to do everything, you need to do these three things at a completely different level.
Looking forward to hearing about your breakthrough results in 2026.
