1.Embrace the Power of Metaphors:

In my encounters with CXOs, they frequently share their complex challenges.

I encourage them to describe their situation using an impactful metaphor.

Metaphors can help to simplify complex situations or problems and create a shared understanding and vision.

One metaphor that frequently emerges is that of a fire engine, symbolizing urgency, collaboration, danger, and intervention.

There’s something about fire engines that captivates the imagination, making it a great metaphor to experiment with in your conversations.

2.Promote Visual Thinking

I often say, “Let’s sketch out the solution together.”

Asking a CXO to draw out a solution can serve multiple purposes.

It encourages them to step back from the granular details, to think creatively and visually, and to consider the big picture.

This activity can expose gaps or challenges that might not be evident when discussing data or details.

It also creates a tangible product that can be shared and discussed with others.

3.Leverage Intuitive Insights

During discussions, I sometimes focus on the role of intuition.

“What does your gut feeling suggest?”

“What’s your intuition on this?”

These questions can trigger more spontaneous, imaginative thinking.

Many business leaders may be so focused on data-driven decision-making that they neglect their intuition.

While it’s essential to make informed decisions, intuition can sometimes provide valuable insights that data cannot.

Right-brain strategies in executive conversations inspire creative solutions, improve communication, and help create a balanced decision-making process.

By incorporating these creative twists into executive meetings, we can construct more engaging narratives and participate in deeper, more substantial conversations.
